What is SB25-003?
Understanding Colorado’s Permit-to-Purchase Law
Effective January 1, 2026, Colorado will require individuals purchasing semiautomatic firearms to obtain a permit. The law outlines background checks, training course completion, and county sheriff approval as requirements prior to purchase. It applies statewide — and there’s currently no centralized process for managing it.
